This month saw a hearing into the new TCI law allowing for 12 storey resorts. The Law has been passed by the government but the law was challenged on the basis it did not go through the proper steps in order to pass the law. Ironically the complainants belong to resorts that had to fight to have the law changed to 7 storeys back in the day. There is no question the process may have been pushed through a little quicker than it should have been however several new resorts are waiting for the green light to get started, bringing much needed jobs to the country. I will avoid saying one way or the other I feel about this but it does seem a bit odd that the only objections to this proposal seem to be coming from wealthy condo owners, most of which do not even live in the country.
The Ritz Carlton, which is just one of several resorts waiting for this case to be ruled on, would bring a substantial number of construction and resort jobs to the Turks and Caicos, not to mention another large brand who markets to travelers all over the world. With everything the country has been through the past 5- 6 years, lets hope they get this resolved quickly.
